NWM: A Month of Recognition

Discrimination is the practice of treating one person or group of people less fairly or less well than other people or groups. Throughout the years, women have received and faced discrimination. Despite much progress made in securing women's rights globally, millions of women and girls continue to experience discrimination and violence, being denied their equality, dignity and autonomy, and even life. This is then how National Women's Month comes to its role.

With the continuous discrimination against women, Republic Act No. 6949 Series of 1990 declared March 8 of every year as National Women’s Day. This aims to give recognition to the contributions of Filipino women in our society. It is the day that aims to highlight the achievements of women and raise awareness about women's equality. Moreover, it is also the day to observe and recognize the cultural, political, social, and economic achievements made by women. Which, all in all, serves as an opportunity to inspire efforts to end gender biases and discrimination and achieve gender equality.

National Women's Month plays a vital role in securing recognition of women's efforts. It is the month that reminds people of the importance of discussing and raising awareness about the issues women face all over the world. It is also a reminder that women are deserving of recognition because they are active contributors to and claim holders of development. With the help of National Women's Month, women will undoubtedly receive the recognition they deserve.
